If you’d like to infuse some scents into your home but want something besides candles and incense, HVAC aromatherapy might be a good choice for your needs. There are a few options that are safe and effective for home use. Consider giving one or more of these a try as a way to freshen up your living environment.
Switch Out Your Filter and Add Essential Oils
One of the easiest ways in which to have scents spread through a room or your entire home is to place essential oil on your air filter. Make sure not to put them on a dirty filter. You already need to replace your air filter every month or two, and this is a fairly easy process since you can buy a new filter from a hardware store.
Select an oil with a scent that you know you’ll love, such as vanilla, citrus, or lavender. You can even combine them together, just make sure to test them on a napkin first to ensure that they are pleasant to you. Place 15 to 20 drops on the air filter evenly.
Use a Sachet
A sachet bag is another great way to attach fragrance to your AC. The bags can include materials like spices, essential oils, and/or herbs. Make sachets or purchase them from home goods stores/departments. Put the bag near the unit’s air intake so that it can circulate the scent around the home. This option works well if you only want the scent in one room or if you’d like to switch them out easily.
Energize With Lemon
Lemon is truly energizing, and it’s a nice clean fragrance that works to get rid of odors from pets and smoking, among other things. Get a mood boost by mixing a tablespoon of lemon juice with a cup of water in a spray bottle, and then spray it right by your AC unit for a lasting fresh scent.
Another Use for Dryer Sheets
Many people enjoy the scent of fresh laundry, and that’s why it’s a good idea to try out dryer sheets for aromatherapy. You can take new sheets and place some in the ducts behind the room registers. As air comes out of the vent, some of this scent will spread through your space. This really is a nice home aromatherapy hack you can simply add to what you’re already using.
Air conditioning helps you stay cool and comfortable, but it’s also a wonderful way to make your home smell fresh and bring out different moods. Ensure that your AC unit or central air is in peak working condition for those months you need it the most.
